Campaign to Reduce the Debt

Our Journey to the Next 150 Years...

A message from Fr. Tim Kallaher, Pastor

We are in midst of a historical milestone here at St. John’s. The year 2010 marks the 150th parish anniversary. Our Catholic community that began in 1860 with 18 families has withstood the test of time and continues to grow more vibrant and alive with each passing year. Today, 1,350 families call St. John’s “home.”

A few years ago, the parish developed a new long-range strategic plan. The plan called on us to address the top challenges facing the parish. One of the top challenges that surfaced in the planning process dealt with the financial situation of the parish, specifically, how do we address paying back the debt owed to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. The debt stems from the building of the new church and school addition in the 1990s. Currently, our total debt stands at $2.64 million. Click here for complete details about the debt.

I, along with parish leaders and staff, feel that something must be done to reduce our debt and now is the time to make it happen. To address our debt and improve our financial situation, all funds raised through the Annual Fund Drive last year (2008/2009) and this year (2009/2010) will be applied to our parish debt.

Paying Down the Debt and Saving Money in the Process

The Archdiocese has offered us an incentive to pay back our debt and save money in the process. Between now and June 30, 2010, all funds raised to benefit debt reduction are exempt from the annual Archdiocesan Assessment of 8%. This 8% assessment is charged to all parishes in the Archdiocese and helps to fund the downtown offices and services. All parish revenue is subject to this assessment.

An Invitation to Join Us On Our Journey - Prayer, Involvement, Financial Participation

Our journey to the next 150 years for the parish begins today. With this effort, we have the opportunity to improve our financial situation while energizing the parish community as we continue our 150th celebration. I invite you and your family to consider three gifts towards this effort:

1) A Gift of Prayer—we firmly believe in the power of prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in all that we do. I invite you to pray daily for the success of this effort and for the future viability of our parish.

2) A Gift of Involvement—to be successful, we need to involve as many families as possible in this effort. I invite you to share your time, talent, wisdom, and expertise with this effort.

3) A Gift of Financial Participation—your family may or may not be able to make a financial contribution at this time. Based on your family situation, I ask that you prayerfully consider a financial gift towards this campaign.

Whether your family is able to commit to one, two, or all three of the above gifts, I invite you to join us on this journey and support this important effort for the future of St. John’s Parish.

Thank you for prayerfully considering this invitation, and may God continue to bless you and your family.

Sincerely Yours In Christ,

Rev. Timothy Kallaher

Pastor
