Ways to Give to St. John's Parish

A Gift Can Take Many Forms

Development Office Home

Cash Contributions

Unrestricted gifts of cash/checks are the most popular and convenient way to support the parish. Most gifts of cash are given through the weekly collections at mass each week. Gifts of cash to St. John’s qualify as charitable deductions for federal income tax purposes.

Electronic Contributions

Gifts to St. John’s can be made electronically through the use of a credit card or electronic fund transfer from a donor’s checking account. Contributions to the weekly collections, annual fund drive, memorial fund, or other giving areas can be made electronically.

Matching Gifts

Many businesses have matching gift programs that multiply employee contributions by two or more times. Some companies match the gifts of spouses and retirees as well. Matching gift forms can usually be obtained from the company’s human resource department and should be sent to St. John’s with your gift.

Securities

Gifts of securities, stocks, or bonds can be made to benefit the parish. This type of gift is tax-deductible and the donor may avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciated stock or security.

Planned Giving

Planned giving, also known as deferred giving, is a process in which future resources are provided through such instruments as bequests, trusts, gift annuities, real estate, life insurance, or other planned giving instruments.

The most common method of a planned giving is the will bequest. Just as you remember loved ones in your will, provisions can also be made to leave a gift to the parish.

Before making a planned gift, donors should consult their attorney and/or financial advisor for tax information specific to their circumstances.

For more information about ways to give and supporting St. John's, contact the Parish Development Director, David Kissell at 385-8010 ext. 119 or via email development@stjohns-dr.org.

Areas of Support at St. John's

Weekly Offering

Contributions to the weekly offering during Mass are the primary source of revenue for the parish. Offering contributions are used to cover the operating expenses of the parish and its ministries.

Annual Fund Drive

Weekly offerings, parish fundraisers, and other miscellaneous donations have not been able to cover our operating costs in recent years. To improve this situation, the Annual Fund Drive was established. Contributions to the Annual Fund this year (2009/2010) are being used to pay down our debt to the Archdiocese, which was incurred when building the church and school addition in the 1990s.

Help-A-Student Education Fund (HAS)

Help-A-Student (HAS) provides financial assistance to families in need  with the cost of tuition at St. John’s School. The primary goal of the program is to ensure that no parishioner is denied a Catholic education based on financial hardship. Click here for more information.

Debt Reduction Fund

Donations made to the Debt Reduction Fund are used to pay down the parish’s debt to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. The debt was incurred with the building of the current church and school addition in the late 1990s.

Capital Improvement Fund

Portions of the St. John’s campus are more than 80 years old, and require continual maintenance. Donations made to the Capital Improvement Fund are used to assist with the cost of improvements and maintenance to the parish buildings and grounds. This fund enables the parish community to enjoy clean, safe, and attractive facilities.

St. John’s Memorial Fund

Opportunities exist to honor or memorialize a family member or friend with a gift to the St. John’s Memorial Fund. Gifts to the fund can be designated to benefit a specific area of the parish. Click here for more information about making a memorial gift.

Flower Fund

This fund is used to offset the cost of purchasing flowers to decorate the Church throughout the year.

Fr. Charlie Bowes Memorial Endowment

Interest revenue generated from the Endowment Fund will be used to fund expenses associated with the liturgical ministries, buildings and grounds, and other needs of the parish. Click here for more information.
